What Is a U-100 Insulin Syringe?
An insulin syringe is a small, single-use syringe with a fine needle permanently attached. The U-100 part describes its scale. It was designed for U-100 insulin, which contains 100 units per millilitre, so the barrel is marked in units rather than millilitres: 100 units equals 1 mL, and every 10 units is 0.1 mL. Nothing about the syringe is specific to insulin, and that fine, precise scale is exactly why insulin syringes became the standard tool for research peptides.
We stock four U-100 options: 1 mL with a 29G 12.7mm needle, and 1 mL, 0.5 mL and 0.3 mL with a finer 31G 6mm needle. In every case the needle is fixed to the barrel, so there is no dead space where liquid is lost between the needle and the syringe.
Insulin Syringes for Peptides
Insulin syringes for peptides do two jobs. First, reconstitution: draw bacteriostatic water from its vial and add it slowly down the inside wall of the peptide vial. Second, measurement: once the peptide is dissolved, the unit scale lets you draw an exact small volume from the reconstituted vial. A 29G needle is fine enough to pass cleanly through a rubber stopper many times without coring it, which keeps the vial sealed.
Our peptide reconstitution guide and calculator walks through both steps, and every peptide page gives a worked example of the volume of water to add.
How to Read an Insulin Syringe: 1 mL, 0.1 mL and Units
Searches like "1 ml on insulin syringe" and ".1 ml on insulin syringe" come from the same confusion: the scale shows units, not millilitres. On a U-100 syringe the conversion is simple.
| Units on the scale | Volume |
|---|---|
| 100 units | 1 mL (the full 1 mL syringe) |
| 50 units | 0.5 mL |
| 10 units | 0.1 mL |
| 1 unit | 0.01 mL |
This is a volume conversion only. What a given volume contains depends on how the vial was reconstituted, and we do not provide dosing advice.
Insulin Syringe Sizes and Needle Gauges
Insulin syringes differ in two ways: barrel size, which sets the most they can hold, and needle gauge, where a higher number means a finer needle. A smaller barrel spaces its markings further apart, so it reads small volumes more precisely; a finer needle passes through a stopper more easily. Choose the barrel for the volumes you work with and the needle for the job.
1ml Insulin Syringe, 29G 12.7mm
The 1ml insulin syringe with a 29G 12.7mm needle is the all-rounder, and the one to choose for reconstitution. It can transfer a full millilitre of bacteriostatic water in one draw, and the 29G needle is stiff enough to pierce a vial stopper cleanly again and again.
This is the syringe included with our bacteriostatic water bundles and starter kits. If you are buying one type of syringe to cover everything, choose this one.
1ml Insulin Syringe, 31G 6mm
The 31G 6mm insulin syringe 1ml keeps the full 1 mL capacity but uses a finer, shorter needle. A 31G needle is thinner than 29G, so it passes through a stopper with less force and leaves a smaller puncture.
Choose it when you want the 1 mL scale with the finest needle we stock. For drawing a full millilitre through a stopper repeatedly, the 29G version is the sturdier choice.
0.5 mL Insulin Syringe, 31G 6mm
The 0.5 mL insulin syringe holds up to 50 units. With half the capacity in a barrel of similar length, its markings are spaced further apart than on a 1 mL syringe, so small volumes are easier to read accurately.
It suits measuring from a reconstituted vial when you never need more than 0.5 mL at a time. For adding bacteriostatic water to a peptide vial, use a 1 mL syringe instead.
0.3 mL Insulin Syringe, 31G 6mm
The 0.3 mL insulin syringe is the smallest we stock, holding up to 30 units. It gives the finest resolution of any size, because its whole scale covers only 0.3 mL, which makes it the choice for the smallest measured volumes.
Like the 0.5 mL size it has a 31G 6mm needle. It is a measuring tool rather than a reconstitution tool: pair it with a 1 mL syringe for adding water to the vial.
Insulin Syringes With Bacteriostatic Water
If you are buying syringes to reconstitute a peptide, you also need the water. Every size of our bacteriostatic water, 3 mL, 10 mL and 30 mL, is available with one insulin syringe included, and our GHK-Cu Starter Kit and Retatrutide Starter Kit include a peptide vial, bac water and a syringe in one carton. For peptides reconstituted in dilute acid, such as IGF-1 LR3, pair the syringe with 0.6% acetic acid.

Insulin Syringe U-100 FAQ
What is a U-100 insulin syringe?
+
A U-100 insulin syringe is a single-use syringe with a fixed fine needle and a scale marked in units, where 100 units equals 1 mL. Chainwell Peptide supplies sterile U-100 syringes in 0.3, 0.5 and 1 mL sizes with 29G or 31G needles.
Which insulin syringe size should I choose?
+
For reconstitution, choose the 1 mL 29G syringe, which transfers a full millilitre and pierces stoppers cleanly. For measuring small volumes, the 0.5 mL and 0.3 mL sizes space their markings further apart for better accuracy. The 31G needles are finer than 29G.
How many mL is 10 units on an insulin syringe?
+
On a U-100 insulin syringe, 10 units is 0.1 mL and 100 units is 1 mL. The scale measures volume only; what that volume contains depends on how the vial was reconstituted.
Are insulin syringes used for peptides?
+
Yes. Insulin syringes are the standard tool for research peptides: the fine 29G needle passes cleanly through vial stoppers, and the unit scale measures small volumes precisely, both for adding bacteriostatic water and for drawing from the reconstituted vial.
Can I buy insulin syringes with bacteriostatic water?
+
Yes. Every size of our bacteriostatic water, 3 mL, 10 mL and 30 mL, is available with one insulin syringe included. Our starter kits also include a peptide vial, bac water and a syringe in one carton.
Where can I buy insulin syringes in Australia?
+
You can buy U-100 1ml insulin syringes online from Chainwell Peptide, with delivery anywhere in Australia. Orders paid before 3pm on a business day ship the same day, and syringes can be packed with your peptides and bacteriostatic water.
