What Is 0.6% Acetic Acid Solution?
A 0.6% acetic acid solution is sterile water containing 0.6% acetic acid, the same acid that gives vinegar its taste, at a far lower and controlled concentration. At this strength the solution is mildly acidic, with a pH of roughly 3. That is the point of it: some peptides carry a charge that makes them clump or dissolve slowly at neutral pH, and a slightly acidic diluent helps them go into solution cleanly.
Because it is sold for reconstitution rather than as a general chemical, 0.6% acetic acid for peptides comes in the same small sterile vial format as bacteriostatic water, ready to draw with a syringe.
Acetic Acid 0.6% for Peptides
The peptide most associated with 0.6% acetic acid is IGF-1 LR3. Many labs reconstitute it in dilute acid, because IGF-1 LR3 dissolves and stays in solution more readily at a slightly acidic pH, and some protocols then dilute that acidic stock further with bacteriostatic water. Other peptides that are slow to dissolve in water may also be prepared in dilute acid if the protocol calls for it.
To use it, let the vial reach room temperature, wipe both stoppers with an alcohol swab, and add the acetic acid slowly down the inside wall of the peptide vial with a U-100 insulin syringe. Swirl gently until clear; do not shake. As a worked example, 1 mL of 0.6% acetic acid in a 1mg IGF-1 LR3 vial gives 1mg, or 1,000 micrograms, per mL. Our reconstitution guide and calculator covers other volumes.
Acetic Acid 0.6% vs Bacteriostatic Water
| 0.6% acetic acid | Bacteriostatic water | |
|---|---|---|
| Contents | Sterile water with 0.6% acetic acid | Sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol |
| pH | Mildly acidic, roughly 3 | Close to neutral |
| Purpose | Dissolving peptides that resist neutral pH | General reconstitution, multi-draw use |
| Typical peptides | IGF-1 LR3 and other hard-to-dissolve peptides | Almost every other peptide in our range |
| Chainwell vial | 3 mL | 3, 10 and 30 mL |
Our recommendation: use bacteriostatic water by default, and 0.6% acetic acid only when your peptide or protocol specifically calls for an acidic diluent. For IGF-1 LR3, order both, so you can dissolve in acid and dilute with bac water if your method requires it.
Acetic Acid 0.6% 3 mL Vial
We supply 0.6% acetic acid in a 3 mL clear glass vial with a rubber stopper and grey flip-off cap, the colour we use across our water and supplies range. Three millilitres covers the reconstitution of several small-fill vials such as IGF-1 LR3, which is typically prepared in volumes of about 1 mL.
Store the unopened vial at room temperature, away from light and heat, until the expiry on the label. Once the stopper has been punctured, discard it 28 days after first opening, the same guidance that applies to other multi-draw diluents.

Acetic Acid 0.6% FAQ
What is 0.6% acetic acid used for?
+
A 0.6% acetic acid solution is a mildly acidic diluent for reconstituting peptides that dissolve poorly at neutral pH. The best-known example is IGF-1 LR3, which many labs dissolve in dilute acid before diluting further if needed.
Should I use acetic acid or bacteriostatic water?
+
Use bacteriostatic water for almost every peptide. Use 0.6% acetic acid only when a peptide or protocol calls for an acidic diluent, as is common with IGF-1 LR3. Some methods dissolve the peptide in acetic acid, then dilute with bacteriostatic water.
How much acetic acid for IGF-1 LR3?
+
It depends on the concentration you want. 1 mL of 0.6% acetic acid in a 1mg IGF-1 LR3 vial gives 1mg, or 1,000 micrograms, per mL. Follow the volume your protocol specifies; our reconstitution calculator works out other combinations.
How long does 0.6% acetic acid last?
+
Unopened, it lasts until the expiry date on the label, stored at room temperature away from light. Once the stopper has been punctured, discard it 28 days after first opening, as with other multi-draw diluents.
Where can I buy 0.6% acetic acid in Australia?
+
You can buy 0.6% acetic acid solution in Australia from Chainwell Peptide as a sterile 3 mL vial. Orders paid before 3pm on a business day ship the same day, and it can be packed in the same parcel as your IGF-1 LR3.
