Bacteriostatic Water
Bacteriostatic Water for Peptides
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, a preservative that stops bacteria multiplying so a vial can be drawn from more than once. It is the standard diluent for reconstituting research peptides. Choose 3 mL for a single peptide vial, 10 mL for several, or 30 mL if you reconstitute every week, and remember the 28 day rule: discard an opened vial 28 days after first puncture. Every size is available with one U-100 syringe included.
Acetic Acid 0.6% for Hard-to-Dissolve Peptides
A few peptides dissolve poorly at neutral pH. 0.6% acetic acid is a mildly acidic diluent, around pH 3, used mainly for IGF-1 LR3, which many labs dissolve in dilute acid and then dilute further with bacteriostatic water. Use bac water by default and acetic acid only when a peptide or protocol calls for it.
Insulin Syringes for Peptides
U-100 insulin syringes are the standard tool for reconstituting and measuring research peptides. On a U-100 syringe, 100 units is 1 mL and 10 units is 0.1 mL. We stock the 1 mL 29G syringe, the all-rounder for adding water to a vial, plus 1 mL, 0.5 mL and 0.3 mL sizes with a finer 31G 6mm needle; the smaller barrels space their markings further apart for measuring small volumes.
What You Need to Reconstitute a Peptide
For one lyophilized peptide vial you need a diluent, usually a 3 mL bacteriostatic water vial, a 1 mL insulin syringe to transfer it, and alcohol swabs. Our peptide calculator works out the concentration once you choose how much water to add, and the reconstitution guide walks through each step. For first orders, our peptide kits pack a peptide vial with water and a syringe in one carton.

Water and Supplies FAQ
What supplies do I need to reconstitute a peptide?
+
You need a sterile diluent, usually bacteriostatic water, a U-100 insulin syringe to transfer it, and alcohol swabs. A 3 mL bac water vial and a 1 mL syringe cover a single peptide vial.
Where can I buy bacteriostatic water in Australia?
+
You can buy bacteriostatic water online from Chainwell Peptide in 3, 10 and 30 mL vials, with or without a syringe, with delivery anywhere in Australia and same-day dispatch before 3pm.
When do I need acetic acid instead of bacteriostatic water?
+
Only for peptides that dissolve poorly at neutral pH, mainly IGF-1 LR3. Use bacteriostatic water for almost every other peptide.
Which insulin syringe size should I buy?
+
Buy the 1 mL 29G syringe for reconstitution. The 0.5 mL and 0.3 mL sizes, with 31G 6mm needles, suit measuring small volumes, because their markings are spaced further apart.
