What Is Epitalon Peptide?
Epitalon is a tetrapeptide, four amino acids long, with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, often shortened to AEDG. At a molecular weight of about 390 g/mol it is one of the smallest peptides in our range. It was developed by Professor Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, as a synthetic version of the active part of epithalamin, a peptide extract of the pineal gland.
The pineal gland sits in the epithalamus of the brain and produces melatonin, which is where both epithalamin and epitalon get their names. Epitalon is the defined, synthetic peptide; epithalamin is the original tissue extract, a mixture rather than a single compound.
Epitalon vs Epithalon: Same Peptide, Two Spellings
Epitalon, epithalon and the less common epitalone are all names for the same compound, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. The spelling varies because the name is transliterated from Russian. What does differ is epithalamin, the natural extract, and N-acetyl epitalon amidate, a modified version with an acetyl group on one end and an amide on the other intended to slow its breakdown. The certificate of analysis for your lot confirms by mass which compound you have; standard epitalon comes in at around 390 g/mol.
What Does Epitalon Do? Epitalon Research
Most epitalon research comes from Khavinson's group and collaborators, and nearly all of it is in cells and animals. The main lines of research are:
- Telomerase. The most cited work reports that epitalon induced telomerase activity and telomere elongation in cultured human somatic cells. Telomeres, the protective caps on chromosomes, shorten as cells divide, which is why this finding drew so much attention.
- Melatonin and the pineal gland. Studies in aged animals report that epitalon restored patterns of melatonin secretion, the reason it comes up in searches about epitalon and sleep.
- Lifespan studies. Several animal studies examined epitalon's effect on lifespan and age-related markers in rodents and fruit flies.
- Gene expression. Later work proposes that short peptides like AEDG may interact directly with DNA to influence gene expression, a hypothesis still being tested.
Because so much of the literature comes from one research group, independent replication is the open question. Browse the papers, with links to each, in our epitalon research library.
Epitalon vs Pinealon and NAD+
| Epitalon | Pinealon | NAD+ | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Tetrapeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly | Tripeptide, Glu-Asp-Arg | Coenzyme, not a peptide |
| Origin | Pineal extract research (Khavinson) | Same research programme | Present in every living cell |
| Research focus | Telomerase, melatonin, ageing markers | Brain tissue, neuroprotection | Energy metabolism, sirtuins, DNA repair |
| Chainwell product | 50mg vial | Not stocked | 500mg vial |
Epitalon and NAD+ both come up in longevity research but work at completely different levels: epitalon as a signalling peptide, NAD+ as a molecule cells use in energy production. Epitalon is also often discussed alongside DSIP in sleep-related research. Studies using more than one compound should order separate vials.
Epitalon 50mg Vial
Chainwell Peptide supplies epitalon as a 50mg lyophilized vial, a 3 mL clear glass vial with a rubber stopper and teal flip-off cap, the colour we use across our sleep and longevity research peptides. Because the molecule is so small, the fill goes a long way: 50mg of a 390 g/mol tetrapeptide is roughly 128 micromoles. Listings that say epitalon acetate refer to the acetate salt form in which synthetic peptides are commonly supplied; your certificate reports what is in your lot.
To reconstitute epitalon, add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall with a U-100 insulin syringe and swirl gently until clear; do not shake. As a worked example, 2 mL in the 50mg vial gives 25mg per mL. Keep the reconstituted vial at 2 to 8 °C, protected from light, and use it within 28 days. Our reconstitution guide and calculator covers other volumes.
Epitalon Capsules and Oral Epitalon
We supply epitalon as a lyophilized vial only. Searches for epitalon capsules, tablets and oral epitalon are common, and some suppliers sell them, but the oral bioavailability of epitalon is not well established: like most peptides it is exposed to digestive enzymes in the gut. A vial gives you the compound itself, verified by lot, to prepare at the concentration and in the vehicle your study design calls for.
Epitalon Half-Life and Storage
As a short peptide, epitalon is expected to be cleared from circulation quickly, and published data on its half-life are limited. Research interest centres on effects on gene expression and telomerase that are reported to outlast the peptide itself. For storage, the practical rule is simple: unopened lyophilized epitalon keeps longest frozen at minus 20 °C, and once reconstituted it belongs in the fridge at 2 to 8 °C, used within 28 days. Our peptide storage guide covers handling in more detail.
Lab-Tested Epitalon With a COA for Every Lot
Every Chainwell Peptide epitalon lot is sent to an independent laboratory before release. Mass spectrometry confirms the molecular mass matches epitalon, which also distinguishes it from N-acetyl epitalon amidate, and HPLC measures purity. A lot that does not meet specification is not sold. Check your lot on our COA lookup page.

Epitalon FAQ
What is epitalon?
+
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, developed by Vladimir Khavinson from research on epithalamin, an extract of the pineal gland. It is studied in ageing research for reported effects on telomerase and melatonin. Chainwell Peptide supplies it as a 50mg lyophilized research vial.
Is epitalon the same as epithalon?
+
Yes. Epitalon and epithalon are two spellings of the same peptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, transliterated from Russian. Epithalamin is different: it is the natural pineal extract epitalon was developed from, a mixture rather than a single defined compound.
What does epitalon do?
+
In research, epitalon is best known for reports that it induced telomerase activity and telomere elongation in cultured human cells, and restored melatonin secretion patterns in aged animals. Most of this work comes from one research group, and independent replication remains limited.
Do you sell epitalon capsules?
+
No. Chainwell Peptide supplies epitalon as a 50mg lyophilized vial only. The oral bioavailability of epitalon is not well established, since peptides are exposed to digestive enzymes, and a vial lets you prepare it at the concentration your study design requires.
How do you reconstitute epitalon 50mg?
+
Add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently until clear, without shaking. 2 mL in the 50mg vial gives 25mg per mL. Store the reconstituted vial at 2 to 8 °C, protected from light, and use it within 28 days.
Where can I buy epitalon in Australia?
+
You can buy epitalon in Australia from Chainwell Peptide as a 50mg lyophilized vial. Every lot carries a lot number matched to an independent certificate of analysis, and orders paid before 3pm on a business day ship the same day by standard or express post.
