What Is Ipamorelin?
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide, a chain of five amino acids, several of them non-natural building blocks that make it resistant to enzyme breakdown. It was developed by researchers at Novo Nordisk and first described in 1998 in the European Journal of Endocrinology, in a paper that called it the first selective growth hormone secretagogue.
It belongs to the family of growth hormone releasing peptides (GHRPs), alongside older compounds such as GHRP-6 and GHRP-2. Like them, it mimics ghrelin, the hunger hormone that also triggers growth hormone release. Unlike them, it does so cleanly, which is why ipamorelin became the GHRP of choice in research.
What Does Ipamorelin Do?
Ipamorelin binds the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a), the ghrelin receptor, on the somatotroph cells of the anterior pituitary. That triggers a pulse of growth hormone release. It is a different receptor from the one GHRH analogues such as CJC-1295 use, which is why the two classes are studied together.
Does ipamorelin increase IGF-1? Indirectly, yes: growth hormone released from the pituitary drives IGF-1 production in the liver, so studies of ipamorelin typically measure both GH and IGF-1. Browse the published work in our ipamorelin research library.
Why Ipamorelin Is Called Selective: Ipamorelin vs GHRP-2 and GHRP-6
The older GHRPs release growth hormone, but they also raise cortisol, ACTH and, in the case of GHRP-6, appetite. Those side signals make results harder to interpret, because any effect seen could come from the extra hormones rather than GH. The 1998 study reported that ipamorelin released growth hormone without significant rises in ACTH or cortisol, even at doses far above those needed for GH release.
That is the whole case for ipamorelin over GHRP-2 or GHRP-6 in research: the growth hormone signal comes with fewer confounding variables. It is the reason most modern GH secretagogue studies, and most blends, use ipamorelin.
Ipamorelin Half-Life
Ipamorelin has a reported half-life of about two hours, producing a pulse of GH release rather than sustained elevation. There is no DAC version of ipamorelin: the drug affinity complex is a feature of CJC-1295 DAC, not of ipamorelin, so searches for "ipamorelin no DAC" are usually looking for the CJC-1295 No DAC and ipamorelin blend.
Ipamorelin vs Tesamorelin and Sermorelin
Tesamorelin and sermorelin are both GHRH analogues: they act on the GHRH receptor, the same target as CJC-1295. Ipamorelin acts on the ghrelin receptor instead. So ipamorelin vs tesamorelin is not really a choice between competitors but between two different pathways to the same pituitary cells, and many protocols use one of each.
| Ipamorelin | Tesamorelin | Sermorelin | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class | Ghrelin receptor agonist (GHRP) | GHRH analogue | GHRH analogue |
| Length | 5 amino acids | 44 amino acids | 29 amino acids |
| Receptor | GHS-R1a | GHRH receptor | GHRH receptor |
| Chainwell vial | 10mg | 10mg | Not stocked; see CJC-1295 No DAC |
If your protocol pairs ipamorelin with tesamorelin, the Tesamorelin and Ipamorelin Blend combines them in one vial.
Ipamorelin With CJC-1295
The most common pairing is ipamorelin with CJC-1295 No DAC. Both are short-acting, so they produce a matched pulse, and stimulating the ghrelin and GHRH receptors together is reported to give a larger GH release than either alone. Our advice: buy this single vial when your study needs ipamorelin on its own or at a ratio of your choosing, and the CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin Blend (5mg + 5mg) when your protocol already uses both at equal amounts.
Ipamorelin 10mg Vial
We supply ipamorelin as a 10mg lyophilized vial in a 3 mL clear glass vial with a rubber stopper and purple flip-off cap, the colour we use across our growth hormone research peptides. To reconstitute, add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall with a U-100 insulin syringe and swirl gently until clear. As a worked example, 2 mL in the 10mg vial gives 5mg of ipamorelin per mL. Keep the reconstituted vial at 2 to 8 °C, protected from light, and use it within 28 days; unopened, it keeps longest frozen at minus 20 °C. Our reconstitution guide and calculator covers other volumes.
Lab-Tested Ipamorelin With a COA for Every Lot
Every Chainwell Peptide ipamorelin lot is sent to an independent laboratory before release. Mass spectrometry confirms the molecular mass matches ipamorelin, around 712 g/mol, and HPLC measures purity. A lot that does not meet specification is not sold. Check your lot on our COA lookup page, and see our guide on how to read a certificate of analysis.

Ipamorelin FAQ
What is ipamorelin?
+
Ipamorelin is a synthetic five amino acid peptide that activates the ghrelin receptor in the pituitary to release growth hormone. First described by Novo Nordisk researchers in 1998 as the first selective GH secretagogue, it is supplied by Chainwell Peptide as a 10mg lyophilized research vial.
What does ipamorelin do?
+
Ipamorelin binds the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a) on pituitary cells and triggers a pulse of growth hormone release. Research reports that it does this with little effect on cortisol or ACTH, which is what makes it selective compared with older GHRPs.
Does ipamorelin increase IGF-1?
+
Indirectly. Ipamorelin releases growth hormone from the pituitary, and growth hormone drives IGF-1 production in the liver, so research on ipamorelin usually tracks both GH and IGF-1. It does not act on IGF-1 receptors itself.
What is the half-life of ipamorelin?
+
Ipamorelin has a reported half-life of about two hours, so it produces a pulse of growth hormone release rather than sustained elevation. There is no DAC version of ipamorelin; the drug affinity complex belongs to CJC-1295 DAC.
What is the difference between ipamorelin and tesamorelin?
+
They work through different receptors. Ipamorelin is a five amino acid ghrelin receptor agonist; tesamorelin is a 44 amino acid GHRH analogue acting on the GHRH receptor. Because they use different pathways they are often paired, as in our Tesamorelin and Ipamorelin Blend.
Where can I buy ipamorelin in Australia?
+
You can buy ipamorelin in Australia from Chainwell Peptide as a 10mg lyophilized vial, or blended with CJC-1295 No DAC or tesamorelin. Every lot carries a lot number matched to an independent certificate of analysis, and orders paid before 3pm on a business day ship the same day.
