What Is Tesamorelin Peptide?
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH). Where most GHRH analogues, such as CJC-1295 and sermorelin, are built on a 29 amino acid fragment of the hormone, tesamorelin keeps the full 44 amino acid sequence of human GHRH. Its one modification is a trans-3-hexenoyl group attached to the first amino acid, a small fatty cap that shields the chain from the enzyme that normally cleaves native GHRH within minutes.
It was developed by the Canadian company Theratechnologies, and in 2010 the US Food and Drug Administration approved it under the name Egrifta for a specific indication in people with HIV. That approval makes tesamorelin unusual among research peptides: it has a substantial clinical trial record behind it.
How Tesamorelin Works
Tesamorelin binds the GHRH receptor on the somatotroph cells of the anterior pituitary, the same receptor natural GHRH uses, and stimulates the synthesis and pulsatile release of growth hormone. Growth hormone then drives IGF-1 production in the liver. Because tesamorelin works through the body's own GHRH pathway, the pituitary still regulates how much GH it releases, which is one of the reasons researchers study a GHRH analogue rather than growth hormone itself.
Its reported half-life is under an hour, so like CJC-1295 No DAC it produces a pulse rather than sustained elevation.
Tesamorelin Research
The largest body of tesamorelin research comes from the clinical trials that led to its approval. A 2007 study in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that tesamorelin reduced visceral adipose tissue, the fat stored around the abdominal organs, in the patient group studied, and later trials examined its effects on liver fat and IGF-1. Research groups use tesamorelin to study the growth hormone axis, visceral fat and lipid metabolism. Browse the papers in our tesamorelin research library.
Tesamorelin vs CJC-1295 and Sermorelin
All three are GHRH analogues acting on the same receptor. The differences are length and modification.
| Tesamorelin | CJC-1295 No DAC | Sermorelin | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Based on | Full GHRH (1-44) | GHRH (1-29) | GHRH (1-29) |
| Modification | Hexenoyl cap on the first amino acid | Four amino acid substitutions | None beyond C-terminal amide |
| Clinical record | FDA-approved (Egrifta) | Research compound | Previously approved in the US |
| Chainwell vial | 10mg | 10mg | Not stocked |
Our recommendation: choose tesamorelin when your work builds on its clinical literature or needs the full-length GHRH sequence; choose CJC-1295 No DAC when your protocol is built on the modified 29 amino acid fragment, as the common CJC-1295 and ipamorelin pairing is. For how tesamorelin compares with ipamorelin, which works through the ghrelin receptor instead, see the comparison on the ipamorelin page. Tesamorelin vs retatrutide is not a like-for-like comparison: retatrutide is an incretin receptor agonist with no direct action on growth hormone.
Tesamorelin 10mg Vial
We supply tesamorelin as a single 10mg lyophilized vial in a 3 mL clear glass vial with a rubber stopper and purple flip-off cap. 10mg is the standard research fill, and we do not stock 5mg or 20mg vials. At 44 amino acids and about 5,136 g/mol, tesamorelin is one of the larger peptides in our range.
For tesamorelin reconstitution, add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall with a U-100 insulin syringe and swirl gently until clear; do not shake. As a worked example, 2 mL in the 10mg vial gives 5mg per mL. Keep the reconstituted vial at 2 to 8 °C, protected from light, and use it within 28 days. Our reconstitution guide and calculator covers other volumes.
Tesamorelin With Ipamorelin
Tesamorelin is often paired with ipamorelin, which releases growth hormone through the ghrelin receptor rather than the GHRH receptor. If your protocol uses both, the Tesamorelin and Ipamorelin Blend combines them in one vial at 13mg plus 3mg. For studies that compare the two or need a different ratio, buy separate vials.
Lab-Tested Tesamorelin With a COA for Every Lot
Large peptides like tesamorelin are harder to synthesise cleanly than short ones, which makes purity testing more important, not less. Every Chainwell Peptide tesamorelin lot is sent to an independent laboratory before release: mass spectrometry confirms identity and HPLC measures purity. A lot that does not meet specification is not sold. Check your lot on our COA lookup page.

Tesamorelin FAQ
What is tesamorelin?
+
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone releasing hormone that keeps the full 44 amino acid human sequence, with a hexenoyl cap that protects it from breakdown. It was approved in the US in 2010 as Egrifta. Chainwell Peptide supplies it as a 10mg lyophilized research vial.
How does tesamorelin work?
+
Tesamorelin binds the GHRH receptor in the pituitary and stimulates pulsatile release of growth hormone, which then raises IGF-1. Because it works through the natural GHRH pathway, the pituitary still regulates how much growth hormone is released.
What is the difference between tesamorelin and CJC-1295?
+
Both are GHRH analogues acting on the same receptor. Tesamorelin keeps the full 44 amino acid GHRH sequence with a hexenoyl cap and has a clinical trial record. CJC-1295 No DAC is built on the 29 amino acid fragment with four substitutions.
How do you reconstitute tesamorelin 10mg?
+
Add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently until clear, without shaking. 2 mL of water in the 10mg vial gives 5mg of tesamorelin per mL. Store the reconstituted vial at 2 to 8 °C, protected from light, and use it within 28 days.
Do you sell tesamorelin 5mg or 20mg?
+
No. Chainwell Peptide supplies tesamorelin as a 10mg vial only, the standard research fill. If your protocol pairs it with ipamorelin, the Tesamorelin and Ipamorelin Blend holds 13mg of tesamorelin plus 3mg of ipamorelin in one vial.
Where can I buy tesamorelin in Australia?
+
You can buy tesamorelin in Australia from Chainwell Peptide as a 10mg lyophilized vial, or blended with ipamorelin. Every lot carries a lot number matched to an independent certificate of analysis, and orders paid before 3pm on a business day ship the same day by standard or express post.
