Buy 5-Amino-1MQ in Australia from Chainwell Peptide as a 50mg research vial. 5 amino 1mq (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), the enzyme at the centre of a growing body of research into NAD+ metabolism, methylation and adipose tissue biology.

Each vial holds the compound as a dry powder sealed under a rubber stopper and flip-off cap, labelled with strength, lot number and expiry. Every lot is tested by an independent laboratory for identity and purity, and the certificate of analysis is matched to the lot number on your vial. The 50mg fill lets a whole series of experiments run from a single lot and a single certificate.

Orders paid before 3pm on a business day ship the same day by standard or express post, anywhere in Australia. Add bacteriostatic water to your order if you need a diluent. Pay by PayID or bank transfer. Supplied for laboratory research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

What Is 5-Amino-1MQ?

5-Amino-1MQ is the short name for 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, a small quinolinium compound that selectively inhibits the enzyme nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). You will see it written several ways: 5 amino 1mq, 5-amino 1mq, 5 amino 1 mq and 5amino1mq all refer to the same molecule. It is supplied as a salt of the 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium cation.

Although it is sold alongside research peptides and often called the "5 amino 1mq peptide", it is not a peptide at all. There are no amino acids joined by peptide bonds in its structure. It is a small, membrane-permeable molecule, which is exactly why research groups became interested in it: it can reach NNMT inside cells, where the enzyme does its work.

How 5 Amino 1MQ Works: NNMT Inhibition

NNMT transfers a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to nicotinamide, producing 1-methylnicotinamide. That reaction sits at a crossroads of two pathways researchers care about.

  • NAD+ salvage. Nicotinamide is the raw material cells recycle into NAD+. Every molecule NNMT methylates is one less available for NAD+ synthesis.
  • Methylation balance. SAM is the cell's main methyl donor. NNMT activity draws on that pool, which links the enzyme to wider methylation capacity.

NNMT is expressed at high levels in adipose tissue and the liver, so its mechanism of action makes 5-Amino-1MQ a tool for studying cellular energy metabolism, NAD+ levels and adipocyte biology. By blocking NNMT, 5 amino 1mq lets a study examine what happens when both nicotinamide and SAM are spared from that reaction.

5-Amino-1MQ Studies and Published Research

Much of the published work on 5-Amino-1MQ comes from research into selective NNMT inhibitors, including a 2018 paper in Biochemical Pharmacology describing membrane-permeable quinolinium inhibitors and their effects in diet-induced obese mice. Later studies have looked at NNMT inhibition alongside diet in mouse models, and at the compound's activity in cell culture.

The research indexed in PubMed is preclinical, carried out in cell culture and animal models. There are no published human trials, and 5-Amino-1MQ is not approved for any therapeutic use. Browse the citations, with links to each paper, in our 5-Amino-1MQ research library.

5-Amino-1MQ vs MOTS-c, SLU-PP-332, NAD+ and AOD-9604

5-Amino-1MQ is often researched alongside other metabolic compounds, and it is frequently confused with them. They work through entirely different mechanisms.

CompoundTypePrimary target or role
5-Amino-1MQSmall moleculeInhibits the NNMT enzyme
MOTS-cMitochondrial-derived peptideSignalling peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA
SLU-PP-332Small moleculeAgonist of the estrogen-related receptors (ERR)
NAD+CoenzymeThe cofactor itself, rather than a regulator of its supply
AOD-9604Peptide fragmentModified fragment of human growth hormone (176 to 191)

Because 5 amino 1mq affects how much nicotinamide is available for NAD+ recycling, it pairs naturally with NAD+ and mitochondrial compounds in study design. SLU-PP-332 and 5-Amino-1MQ are both small molecules, but one acts on nuclear receptors and the other on an enzyme. The full range sits in metabolic research compounds.

5-Amino-1MQ FAQ

What is 5 amino 1mq?

+

5 amino 1mq (5-Amino-1MQ) is 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, a small-molecule inhibitor of the enzyme nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). It is used in laboratory research into NAD+ metabolism, methylation and adipose tissue biology. Chainwell Peptide supplies it as a 50mg research vial with a lot-matched certificate of analysis.

Is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide?

+

No. Despite often being sold as a peptide, 5-Amino-1MQ is a small quinolinium molecule with no amino acids joined by peptide bonds. It is membrane-permeable, which lets it reach the NNMT enzyme inside cells. It is supplied in a vial like our research peptides and handled in the same way.

How does 5 amino 1mq work?

+

5 amino 1mq blocks NNMT, the enzyme that methylates nicotinamide using S-adenosylmethionine. Inhibiting that reaction spares nicotinamide for NAD+ recycling and spares the SAM methyl pool, which is why the compound is used to study NAD+ levels and cellular energy metabolism in cell and animal models.

Has 5-Amino-1MQ been tested in human trials?

+

The research on 5-Amino-1MQ indexed in PubMed is preclinical, carried out in cell culture and animal models, and there are no published human trials. It is not approved by the TGA for any therapeutic use. Chainwell Peptide supplies it for laboratory research use only.

Where can I buy 5-Amino-1MQ in Australia?

+

You can buy 5-Amino-1MQ in Australia from Chainwell Peptide as a 50mg research vial. Each vial carries a lot number matched to an independent certificate of analysis, and orders paid before 3pm on a business day ship the same day by standard or express post. Payment is by PayID or bank transfer.
